I wanted to show what came home with me yesterday. We are finishing up clearing out my MIL's house. This is something she had as long as my husband and his brothers can remember. Years ago it was stripped of about 6 coats of paint, down to the ribbon stripe mahogany. I never saw her use it in the 20 years I knew her, but I'm so glad she kept it.
Pretty and small enough to tuck in the corner. But wait....

Wow, that is wonderful. I found one at a thrift store and was able to date the Singer. There is a web site and you put in the serial # and modal and they'll give you the exact date it was made. I'll bet it works too.
Oh! I knew what it was before you opened it! Do you know what year it would be from? I have an old one that I've never tried (bought just for the cabinet to sit my portable on), I've always wondered if it would still work. Enjoy!
My grandmother had one very much like it. And thanks for your comment on my site. After looking at your profile you're right- we do live close to each other!
Hi Linda, Thank you for dropping over and now following my blog.
What a wonderful sewing table. You did an amazing job stripping the wood back and that machine will sew a treat. I have my mother's old one and the sound it makes compared to modern ones is divine. Hope you have hours of happy sewing on her.
Best wishes, Carol xoxo
Hi it's me again. I just wanted to let you know I passed on The Trendy Blogger Award to you. I love you blog!

Hi Linda! What a treasure! I remember my grandmother had a machine like this. I have a picture of my sister and myself standing in front of it when were little girls. This is a real beauty! ;) Paulette
Hi Linda! I know it's not nice to envy others but I envy that beautiful machine! The cabinet is so gorgeous too! I can't imagine anyone ever painting over that beautiful wood! Have a great day! Twyla
My mother had a black Singer sewing machine in a cabinet like that. It's the machine she used to make our dresses when my sisters and I were young. She also taught me how to sew on it. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
