Happy New Year!

As we ring in the new year, I'm looking ahead. I don't make resolutions, but for the past couple of years I have made a short mental list of things I'd like to spend more time on. I'd like to share this year's list with you in hopes that in the coming months, you may pop in and leave a comment asking me how I'm doing with one thing or another that I'm working on. That way, you help me to remember what I wanted to accomplish.
OK here we go:
1. Leave more blog comments when I visit. I've already been working on this one for a week or so. I know how much your comments mean to me and yet, I visit so many wonderful blogs without taking the time to leave a comment. Now I don't mean to comment on each post of each blog I visit, but when something touches me, I want to let the blogger know.

2. Practice crochet. Learning to crochet was on last year's list and I did make one wonky looking dishcloth and a few granny squares that were actually square. But I don't really know how to crochet. I need lots of practice. If you crochet and have any tips or easy patterns to share, I'd appreciate any help. I want to make adorable things like these.

3. Follow Fly Lady. If you are not familiar with the
Fly Lady site, she helps you get your house clean and organized. I need to spend time on this. I've started this program a couple of times and always fall off the wagon. But each time I also come away with a new good habit and less clutter in my house. Most important to me right now is to reduce the amount of paper clutter in my house. Things like owners manuals for things we don't own any more, receipt for the pizza we ate in 2008, notes with phone numbers but no name, etc. It's paper shredding time!

4. Reduce my fabric stash. This also was on my list last year and I did pretty well with it. Since May, I have purchased very little new fabric and sewed from my stash. I hope to spend more time sewing this year and reduce my fabric piles even more.

5. Pray. Each night after turning out the light, I thank God for the many blessings of the day and ask for his help for myself, and my family and friends. So many nights, I fall asleep counting my blessings. I would like to find another time during each day when I have a few minutes of peace and quiet to pray for God's help for those in need. I just need to decide on the best time and make it a habit.

Each day I receive an inspirational quote from this site. This is one of my favorites.

"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending."

---Maria Robinson

Wishing each of you, all the best in 2011.

Linda Ruthie I want to tell you I admire the way you visit my blog and I have not been good about visiting yours nearly as much. I will put you in my blog roll to make it easier on me to remember. Lots of us fall asleep on the Lord. I really liked your list. Do you visit my friend Sandy who crotchet's and has the blog Tea Cup Lane? I bet she could help you with that hobby. Nan

You put together a wonderful to do list Linda. Hubby and I have been working on de-cluttering our home but it is still a WIP. You show cased two very cute crochet projects. I took up crocheting for the 3rd time in 2008 and am making things I never thought I would be able to. I practice on granny squares all the time - they are my favorite because I love to change colors. There are so many wonderful videos on YouTube to show one how to do any crochet stitch. I would suggest you do a granny square throw - pick colors you like and just start making the squares. I like to use the "join as you go" method of connecting the squares (I have a link to a great video of that method on my blog). Also, teach yourself to do the "magic circle" for starting your granny squares and you won't be sorry. It's so much better than doing a slip stitch. And easy!!! Good Luck! And Happy New Year! Oh, yeah, thanks for becoming a follower of my blog! I just read Nan's comment about me as I am typing this...now that was sweet of her to mention me to you. We visited Nan and Bob when we were in Alaska this summer and they are so much fun to be around. And Nan is so good at crafts too.

OMG, that crocheted chicken is the cutest thing ever!!!
I meant to try the Fly Lady last year, but never got started. l keep a fairly neat house without her help, but occasionally I get overwhelmed by the paper clutter. A small pile can turn into a mountain in no time at all! :-)
Wanted to wish you a very happy new year!!

This was a very inspiring post to me! I read resolutions similar to my own! If you do find patterns to these lovely projects, I would love to try them as well. Paper stash reduction here, crochet one project this year, and sew something, anything! Good luck to us both! Thank you for all you have shared this past year. I treasure visiting your blog! Happy New Year :-) I am self taught at crochet. It is easy-peasy, trust me. If you run into problems with some stitches, I suggest you go to "you tube" and watch video's while crocheting. You can start and stop and replay the videos as you learn. They show the basic chain stitch and each stitch from there! Easy peasy!
