My favorite childhood pastimes certainly were a sign that I would grow up to love crafting. What is it about a new box of Crayolas that I find so hard to resist? I love the rows of colorful points.
I still describe colors by their Crayola name. I loved those descriptive names. Most of my favorites were pastels: sky blue, sea green, lavender, carnation pink, periwinkle. And how many shades of brown were in that box of 64 crayons?
Of course to go with crayons, you must have coloring books. I think there must have been a coloring book for every show on TV. Most of the books I remember having were more basic and of course the holiday books.
I remember a summer day when I took my coloring books and my coffee can of crayons to the picnic table in the front yard. After coloring for a while, I left my crayons and books on the table and went off to play. I forgot about picking up my things until late in the day. When I went to get them, I found a coffee can half full of melted, colorful wax! I was so sad. I truly treasured my crayons.
Would you like to color with me? ♥

I can never resist buying new crayons especially when they go on sale each fall. It's always a special treat to give my girls a new box for long roadtrips. Your coloring books and pages are just delightful. Thank you for sharing.
Oh how I wished and waited to get a 64 pack with 'built in sharpener' in 1969! My favorite color was Magenta!
Thanks or the memories! FUN POST!
Oh wow....I remember when I was ill, which seemed to be often as a kid I would get small boxes of Crayolas and coloring books from the neighbors.....I liked to color too.....Sure would love some individual scans of those coloring books....I want to make a banner of them! I am collecting them anywhere I can find them....any chance we could do that? I would pay you for your time...:) Sandy
What a wonderful post! I loved coloring too as a kid and your photos are darling! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Hugs, Mickie
Your post took me back to the little general store in Alpine called Burgess Mercantile...I am picking out a birthday party gift for a friend. There are some really fun coloring books and boxes of crayons...I sure hope mom will let me get the one with the ballerina on it. Sometimes I have to settle for a card with a few dimes and nickels taped inside. Not this time I hope! =D
Mmmm, not to mention that delicious new-crayon smell. I adored coloring. Still do.
Oh yes! I can smell them! ;)
I can smell them too. Thank you girls, for remembering with me.
Oh how I loved the smell of those pretty Crayolas...still do! What great memories you just brought back of coloring for hours in my coloring books without a care in the world, as I worked very carefully to stay in the lines...Great feel good post sweetie! xo Paulette :)
So this is why we all love to craft! Crayons and coloring, of course. I wanted to tell you I will slip in Bingo cards with your banner when I send it out after returning from vacation the first week in August. PS Loved the Danny Thomas show and will sometimes watch it on the internet. Such dry humor, I love it and the name Linda! E
I love Crayolas and I am a crayon snob. It has to be Crayolas.. no other brand will do! I love the smell and how it glides along the paper! Thanks for the majorette coloring sheet! As a former majorette in the 60's and 70's I collect majorette stuff and this will fit in perfect...after I color it!!
Blessings
Linda
My favorite smell is the smell of crayons. It relaxes me every time. I must admit I still color, it is a great stress relief for me, I bought myself a new Minnie Mouse coloring book last week! I guess some things I will never out grow :)
My favorite color, then and now...Red
My childhood consisted of countless hours of coloring in coloring books, trying to color as neat as a pin and stay within the lines. Every summer, when we would go on vacations to the countryside, rainy days were met with stacks of coloring books and crayons for all.
Thanks for bring back those memories!
Maureen
Oh, yes! I loved the coloring as much as you! And the softness of Crayola was always the best! I would sit and be so precise! I didn't want to share my books with my cousins. My mom would say that wasn't nice. But then they were more scribblers than I was, and I can still see a page in my head that I was so annoyed with the lack of detail, and messiness! I felt as they ruined my treasured artwork books. Oh, how funny to think about that. Nice memories Linda!
Bless you,
Susie
